Description: Tonalist (KY) B , C, foaled February 11, 2011 (Tapit - Settling Mist, by Pleasant Colony) finds redemption for his Breeders' Cup Classic loss by winning the $500K Grade I Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct November 28, 2015. Jockey John Velazquez and Tonalist broke last in the field of six and raced along the rail as Private Zone went out to set the pace. Matrooh was chasing Private Zone from the outside and Red Vine was along the rail as they went into the far turn. Mshawish was tracking those three in fourth and Tonalist was close up along the rail in fifth. Midway around the turn Tonalist dropped back while saving ground. Private Zone held the lead as they turned for home, however, Matrooh and Mshawish went by him inside the 3/16th pole. Tonalist still had some work to do at the 1/8th pole and put in a bid from the outside. Red Vine angled off the rail in deep stretch to come between Matrooh and Mshawish while Tonalist was gaining with every stride. Nearing the line Tonalist got the lead to win by a neck over Red Vine. Matrooh was a neck further back for the show. Mshawish was 3/4 lengths back to finish fourth in a blanket finish. Tonalist is now 7-4-2 from 16 starts and he has earned $3,647,000. We was bred by Woodslane Farm, is owned by Robert Evans and he is being trained by Christophe Clement. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
