Description: Texas Red (KY) B , C, foaled March 15, 2012 (Afleet Alex - Ramatuelle (CHI), by Jeune Homme) has a total of 12 Kentucky Derby points after his commanding victory in the 1 1/16 miles $2 million Grade I Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita Park on November 1, 2014. Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux settled Texas Red into stride to trail the field as a speed duel was developing up front with Blue Dancer, Souper Colossal, and Mr. Z in the top flight with Upstart, The Great War, and Private Prospect up close chasing them. Carpe Diem was making a nice move as the field made its way around the far turn, however, Texas Red was absolutely flying around the turn and got to the leaders at the top of the lane. Carpe Diem seemed to be standing still as Texas Red went by him. Texas Red came wide out of the turn, caught the leaders, and drew off to win by 6 1/2 lengths in front of Carpe Diem. Carpe Diem regained his best stride and closed strongly to finish 2nd, a nose in front of Upstart. Texas Red earned 10 Kentucky Derby points for his victory in the Juvenile and received 2 points for his 3rd place finish behind American Pharoah in the Grade I Frontrunner Stakes September 27th at Santa Anita.
