Description: Stopchargingmaria (KY) DK B/, F, foaled March 26, 2011 (Tale of the Cat - Exotic Bloom, by Montbrook) paid big dividends for her new owners at Town & Country Farms with her determined victory in the Breeders' Cup World Championships 9 furlong $2 million Grade I Distaff October 30, 2015 at Keeneland. Town and Country Farms privately bought Stopchargingmaria last fall after the filly failed to reach her reserve of $3.15 million at Fasig-Tipton's November sale. Mike Repole, who named her and raced her as a 2 and 3 year old, consigned Stopchargingmaria to the sale. In the Distaff, jockey Javier Castellano and Stopchargingmaria saved ground around the Clubhouse turn and angled to the outside for the run up the back stretch. My Sweet Addiction and Yahilwa were dueling for the lead up the back stretch and around the far turn. As they neared the quarter pole Stopchargingmaria was joined on the outside by Stellar Wind. They were six and seven deep across the track as the field caught the leaders. It was Stopchargingmaria and Stellar Wind to her outside with the momentum and they swept by field to race down the stretch. Stopchargingmaria and Stellar Wind were in battle and there was enough jostling down the stretch for the Stewards to post the inquiry sign. However, it was determined what little interference by the winner was not enough to take her number down. Stopchargingmaria wins by a neck over Stellar Wind. It was another 3 1/2 lengths back to Curalina in 3rd. Town & Country began Stopchargingmaria's 4 year old campaign in the Grade I Madison at Keeneland April 4th where finished a neck behind the winner Princess Violet. Stopchargingmaria then went to Pimlico May 15th and won the Grade III Allaire DuPont Distaff Stakes. She shipped to Saratoga and won the Grade III Shuvee (August 2nd), then ran 4th to Sheer Drama in the Grade I Personal Ensign Stakes (August 29th). She took September off and then had 4 workouts at Keeneland in the weeks leading up to the Distaff. Stopchargingmaria is 9-3-1 from 18 starts and she has earned $2,924,000 in her racing career. She was bred by Harvey Clarke & Brookdale Farm LLC and she is being trained by Todd Pletcher. Drawing by Daily Racing Funnies ®.
