Description: Songbird (KY) DK B/, F, foaled April 30, 2013 (Medaglia d'Oro - Ivanavinalot, by West Acre) turns the 8 furlong $300K Grade II Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita Park February 6, 2016 into a romp to remain undefeated. Regular rider Mike Smith and Songbird took the lead from the opening bell and went as if out for morning stroll to win by 6 1/2 lengths. The Las Virgenes is a Kentucky Oaks Prep Season race and the first four finishers earn Oaks points of 10-4-3-2-1. Land Over Sea came along for the place, She's a Warrior was 3 3/4 lengths further back for the show, and Merirosvo was 4th. The 2015 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Filly and Eclipse Award winning Songbird is being pointed towards the Kentucky Oaks. Owner Rick Porter of Fox Hill Farms is not a fan of the Kentucky Derby 'Point System' and says they will remain on the Oaks trail. Songbird is 5 for 5 five and she has earned $1,682,000.
