Description: Mshawish (KY) DK B/, H, foaled May 16, 2010 (Medaglia d'Oro - Thunder Bayou, by Thunder Gulch) gets his third stakes in a row with a bold move down the stretch between horses to win the 1 1/8 miles $300K Grade I Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap February 7, 2015. Two time Eclipse Award winning Jockey Javier Castellano tracked Golden Rifle and Grand Tito from along the inside up the backstretch. As they entered the far turn Slumber go rolling along the outside and Mshawish was looking for somewhere to go as Golden Rifle left no room to get through along the rail and Grand Tito raced up to join Golden Rifle as they turned for home. Slumber was charging on the outside. Golden Rifle went to the rail in deep stretch and that gave rider Castellano just enough room to surge between that one and Grand Tito to engage Slumber in an all out duel to the wire. Mshawish got the win by a nose over Slumber. War Correspondent was a length further back for the show. Mshawish came over from Dubai after winning the Zabeel Mile (UAE-II) and then ran 4th in the Dubai Duty Free (UAE-I) last spring. From there he stopped off at Sha Tin in Hong Kong and ran 8th in the Champions Mile May 4, 2014. Prior to his racing in Dubai he raced 7 times in France where he won twice including the listed Prix de Torgeville at Deauville in 2013. He came to the US and ran 6th in the G3 Metropolitan Jets Oceanport Stakes in July, 2014. He then won an AOC (no tag) at the Spa in August but was disqualified and placed 3rd. Mshawish then ran 3rd behind Legendary and Up With The Birds in the G3 Knickerbocker at Belmont in October. He then went to Gulfstream Park to win the Black Type El Prado in December and the G2 Ft Lauderdale in January. Mshawish is now 6-2-2 from 17 starts and he became a millionaire with his victory in the Turf Handicap to bring his earnings to $1,055,151.
