Description: Materiality (KY) B , C, foaled April 9, 2012 (Afleet Alex - Wildwood Flower, by Langfuhr) was unraced at two, now three for three as he wins the 1 1/8 miles $1 million Grade I Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park March 28, 2015. Materiality up to press the pace set by Jack Tripp as they rounded the Clubhouse turn. Upstart picked up the chase from third as they ran up the back stretch. Materiality went up to challenge Jack Tripp for the lead after 5 furlongs and Upstart went with him. Jack Tripp offered little resistance and dropped out of it as they rounded the far turn. Materiality and Upstart raced as a team turning for home but inside the 1/8 pole Materiality started to pull away and went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Ami's Flatter got rolling around that far turn but had too much ground to make and finished a distant 3rd, 12 1/2 lengths behind Upstart. Materiality won his first start, a six furlong MSW January 11th. He stepped up to win the 1 1/8 miles Islamorada Handicap on March 6th. All three of Materiality's wins came at Gulfstream Park and his regular rider is John Velazquez. He is 3 for 3 and he has earned $656,028. Materiality was bred by John D.
