Papa Turf was sent to the front and Cherubim was applying pressure on the outside. Grazen's Hope was hustled up to the leaders, briefly, and then backed out of it; Kobe's Back and jockey Joel Rosario were bidding their time towards the rear. Rounding the far turn Cherubim took the lead and was drawing away as Kobe's Back came running from far back. Kobe's Back got the lead at the 1 1/16 pole and quickly drew off to win by 5 1/4 lengths.
