Description: Fortune Pearl (KY) DK B/, F, foaled April 6, 2011 (Mineshaft - Chelsea's Pearl, by Chelsey Cat) got her first Graded victory with a win in the 1 1/16 miles $300K Grade II Delaware Oaks at Delaware Park July 5, 2014. Jockey Trevor McCarthy was content to let Fortune Pearl settle in toward the rear of the pack while Aibhilin was keeping pressure on front runner Honey's Ryan. After a half mile Aibhilin went up to engage Honey's Ryan and wrestled the lead from her at the top of the stretch. Fortune Pearl and Joint Return saved ground rounding the far turn and then both swung wide for the stretch run. Nearing the furlong grounds it was Aibhilin to catch and Fortune Pearl did do just that and drew off to win by 2 lengths. Joint Return just did get a nose in front of Aibhilin, Aibhilin had to settle for 3rd. Fortune Pearl is now 3-2-1 from 7 starts and she has earned $272,547 for her owner/breeder Zanim R. Meahjohn.
