Description: California Chrome (CA) CH , C, foaled February 18, 2011 (Lucky Pulpit - Love the Chase, by Not For Love) toyed with Midnight Hawk for awhile then sprinted clear and won for fun in the 1 1/16 miles $300K Grade II San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park March 8, 2014. Jockey Victor Espinoza sent California Chrome to the front, Midnight Hawk was sent up to keep the pace honest but California Chrome was just too good for this field. He won by 7 widening lengths at the end. Midnight Hawk held 2nd, he was 5 1/4 lengths in front of Kristo in 3rd. California Chrome earned 50 points towards his date with destiny in the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby the first Saturday in May. He now has 4 stakes victories from 9 starts and he has earned $534,850. He is a homebred colt of Steven Coburn and Perry Martin and he is being trained by Art Sherman.
