Description: Big John B (FL) DK B/, G, foaled January 24, 2009 (Hard Spun - Baldoera, by Doneraile Court) takes his win streak to three with a win in the 11 furlong $250K Grade II Del Mar Handicap August 22, 2015 over the turf course rated firm at Del Mar; he successfully defended his crown having won this race last year. Jockey Rafael Bejarano settled Big John B well off the pace and last as Little Jerry went out to show the way. Ganesh was rated in third around the Clubhouse turn and up the backstretch and Ashleyluvssugar was behind that one as the field took closer order as Little Jerry slowed down the pace. As they rounded the far turn and turned for home Ganesh was the first to hit the front, however, Ashleyluvssugar was full of run and Big John B made up a ton of ground around the turn and was coming fast on the far outside. Big John B got the lead in deep stretch to win by 1 1/2 lengths, Ganesh held on for the show another length behind Ashleyluvssugar. Big John B is becoming a warrior having been out 34 times and has a record of 14-5-4 while earning $717,175. He was bred by Brylynn Farm, owned by Michael House, and he is being trained by Phillip D'Amato. The Del Mar Handicap is a Breeders' Cup World Championships Challenge Series race and Big John B gets a travel allowance and his entry fees paid for a start in the BC Turf this October at Keeneland should his connections decide to send him.
