Description: Beholder (KY) B , M, foaled May 9, 2010 (Henny Hughes - Leslie's Lady, by Tricky Creek) runs off with the 8.5 furlong $300K Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar August 1, 2015. Jockey Gary Stevens settled Beholder into a stalking position behind Honey Ride and My Sweet Addiction for a half mile then swept to the lead as they rounded the far turn and galloped home from there as much the best. Yahilwa was 7 lengths further back for the place and Warren's Veneda another 4 1/4 lengths back for the show. Beholder is the Eclipse Award winning Champion Filly of 2012 (2 YO) and 2013 (3YO) and she is a two time Breeders' Cup Champion having won the Juvenile Fillies in 2012 and the Distaff in 2013. She was lightly raced in 2014 due to an injury, however, did win the Santa Lucia Stakes and the Grade I Zenyatta Stakes and registered a sharp close up 4th place finish in the Grade I Ogden Phipps behind Close Hatches, Princess Of Sylmar, and Antipathy. Beholder is 13-3-0 from 18 starts and she has earned $3,656,600 for her owners at Spendthrift Farm. She was bred by Clarkland Farm and she is being trained by Richard Mandella. The Clement L. Hirsch Stakes is a Breeders' Cup World Championships Challenge Series race and Beholder gets her entry fees paid for a start in the Distaff should her connections decide to send her to Keeneland this October.
