Description: Avanzare (KY) B , G, foaled March 6, 2010 (Grand Reward - Turn the Tide, by Theatrical (IRE)) comes off the shelf from throat surgery and wins the $200K Grade II Del Mar Mile Handicap over the firm turf course at Del Mar August 23, 2015. Jockey Gary Stevens scored his 4999th North American victory about Avanzare when this runner was last seen in the 8 furlong $200K Grade II Arcadia Handicap at Santa Anita January 31st. In a post race interview Gary said he worked out Avanzare the other week and knew he would run well. Avanzare broke well from the outside 10 post and with a short run to the first turn he found himself comfortably racing along the fence well off the pace set by Marchman. Talco raced along side Azanzare during their journey and as they raced into the far turn they both had to go wide. Avanzare got he jump on Talco and Talco fought on but it was Avanzare coming away with the win by a 1/2 length. Di Giorgio came along for the show, 1 length further back. Avanzare is now 7-3-2 from 13 starts and he has earned $505,180. He was bred by Snow Lantern Thoroughbreds, owned by Donato Lanni & John Youngblood and he is being trained by Tom Proctor.
